Dear Friends,

One of my priorities as your representative on the New York City Council is to connect constituents with important City services and resources.

On July 10 and 24, I will be hosting staff from the NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development (HPD) at my district office to assist constituents with a variety of housing issues.

HPD can help you with:
  • Understanding your rights and responsibilities as a tenant or property owner
  • Getting help filing a housing complaint
  • Preparing and applying for affordable housing
  • Remedying a housing code violation
  • And more!
This service is by appointment only. To make an appointment, please call my district office at (212) 564-7757 or email speakerjohnson@council.nyc.gov.

In service,

Corey Johnson
Speaker
New York City Council

Met Council on Housing

Emily --

Across New York City and state, ordinary people are facing unstable housing, rents that rise faster than their paychecks, and homelessness in the name of real estate greed! We can shout these words from the rooftops, but what we really need is for people to show up to events happening this month. Doing so will show our electeds that we are a powerful majority who are paying attention to their actions.

Here this month's opportunities to get involved:

On May 14th, join us in Albany as we give our state lawmakers a 30-day notice to pass Universal Rent Control. We will be holding a rally, meeting with elected officials, and in general making noise about the need for stronger rent laws. Buses and lunch will be provided. This will be an all-day event.
Reserve your seat on the bus here!

On May 7th, the Rent Guidelines Board will hold their preliminary vote for rent increases for the coming year. Their decision is crucial to the affordability of rent-stabilized apartments. We need the voting members of the RGB to understand that tenants and their allies are in the room and are paying attention!

We will meet at The Great Hall at Cooper Square, 7 E. 7th St. in Manhattan, at 6pm. RSVP here!

On
May 2nd, the State Assembly will hold a hearing in NYC about our proposed bills for Universal Rent Control. We need you to show up and support tenant speakers, who will be giving powerful personal testimonies in order to persuade legislators that Universal Rent Control is necessary for the protection of tenants and communities.

There will be a rally following by morning session at 10am, or an evening session at 6pm.

Both sessions will be at City Hall.

RSVP for the morning session here and the evening session here.

Please note that there are no more slots for speakers on May 2nd. If you would like to speak in Albany on May 9th, please contact Andrea at andrea@metcouncilonhousing.org

In Solidarity,

Andrea
